Less is more

Just added to my Genius bin, “Garfield Minus Garfield” The premise: take every “Garfield” cartoon and remove that contemptible critter. The result is a sitcom-sanitized “Life in Hell” or even Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth. Of course, it’s far superior than its progenitor:

Without his feline foil, Jon is a weak, howling speck of insignificance. A non-entity who is unable to define himself except through mindless interaction with inanimate objects. I actually found myself laughing at a “Garfield” strip for once, along with sympathy for the shnook:

It’s like Fight Club, as if “Joe” never manifested his Tyler Durden id and remained doomed to live out the horrors of his idiotically mundane existence:

  1. Haha I liked garfield as a kid but these are hilarious!

  2. Yeah, these are awesome. Great description of Jon. Ha.

There are also variations of this that replace Garfield with an ordinary cat.

Check it out. More pathetic? More disturbing?

  3. Haha, definitely more disturbing; the impression is that he’s more coo-coo for coco-puffs. Or on serious amounts of acid. But also really fucking funny.

  4. This is amazing.

    What a great concept.

    Thx.
