I can’t think of anything more bizarre than a Bad Lieutenant remake starring Nicholas Cage. Except a remake starring Cage and directed by Werner “I kind of love chicken, but they frighten me more than any other animal” Herzog. It’s set in New Orleans—another bad idea. Cage can’t pull off any accent unless it’s hillbilly goofy (Raising Arizona) or mumbly surfer dude (everything else).
Watching the trailer, I’m still not sure whether this is supposed to be a black comedy or an ironic drama or just one really, really weird movie. But considering that it’s directed from the the guy who said, “I make films to rid myself of pain, like ridding yourself of a nightmare,” I think I get the idea.
